Is this just for fun?

Despiting the mischief making rhetoric, we are very serious indeed. All the presented arguments are supported by numbers from research. Sometimes the facts are cherry-picked and presented in demagogic context, which is however well in agreement with the strategy of our partnership organization STOP TEMELIN.

Is the movement START ZWENTENDORF a polar opposite to STOP TEMELIN?

Not at all. STOP TEMELIN is our partnership organization. We are after the same thing, in principle. We value our environment, we want to decrease negative consequences of electricity production and last but not least we want to decrease the level of radioactive fallout.

As our partners only focus on a single topic, that is the nuclear power plant in Temelin, we focus on the nuclear power plant in Zwentendorf only. We are not a coalition however, but rather partners. Small differences in our opinions, such as START versus STOP, strengthen out friendship.

The logos of START ZWENTENDORF and STOP TEMELIN differ only in caption. Should they have a different design?

Not at all. The logos have to be identical. START ZWENTENDORF endorses ideas of the open movement STOP TEMELIN, and we also endorse their methods of pursuing these ideas - peaceful demonstrations, border blockades and political pressure in mass media. The logo represents these ideas and positions in a graphical manner, as does a flag of a country or a church symbol. Would the STOP TEMELIN movement want to make a unilateral move and cease our friendship, it would first have to properly explain reasons for such a unilateral action.

As Church cannot ban anyone from using a cross as a symbol, none can ban anyone from using symbols of a movement.

However no cease of friendship was yet communicated and we have no signs of any such intentions.

What is your position concerning nuclear power plant Temelin?

The nuclear power plant in Temelin is nor our business, it is dealt with by our partnership movement STOP TEMELIN. Please ask them about Temelin. Our goal is to reduce the radioactive fallout by bringing the nuclear power plant Zwentendorf on-line.

What kind of reactor do you suggest for nuclear power plant Zwentendorf?

The question of reactor type and of other related technology is a problem of Austria, specifically it is up to the company which owns the nuclear power plant Zwentendorf. The task of governmental and non-governmental organizations is to assure safety and monitor operation of the plant.

What is Zwentendorf anyway?

Nuclear power plant Zwentendorf is located at the bank of Danube river, about 20 miles northwest of Vienna. The plant was intended to be the first of six Austrian nuclear plants. It is a boiling water reactor rated at 730 MWe. The construction was begun in 1971 and completed in 1978 at a cost of 5.2 billion Shillings, about 380 million EUR or about a half billion USD.
